Trinity parishioners enjoy working on habitat house

Trinity Episcopal Church is a community of faith dedicated to spreading the gospel of Christ to its neighbors and the world. In addition to its many wonderful liturgical beliefs and traditions, Trinity Episcopal Church also ministers in its community both as a church body and through the actions of the individual members and clergy of our parish. Parishioners here are very active and excited about the projects we have undertaken and are developing in Statesville and beyond.

Annually, Trinity sponsors 3 fund raising events that raise significant funds that have contributed to the efforts of such non-profit organizations in Statesville such as Hospice of Iredell County, Fifth Street Shelter Ministries and Habitat for Humanity. Not only do our events raise money, but we also participate in fellowship, have lots of great food and celebrate the message of Christ through our actions, not just our words!

We contribute more than our treasures – we also contribute our time and talents through such projects as:

  • Building and being involved with numerous Habitat houses, including a home building project in 2006 where Trinity joined with several other Statesville churches to build another. Trinity’s congregation most recently joined in the United Way Day of Caring to help construct yet another home for Habitat for Humanity;
  • Gathering supplies for disaster victims;
  • Assisting with relocating Hurricane Katrina evacuees;
  • Arranging for transportation of supplies to disaster areas;
  • Recycling aluminum cans on behalf of Fifth Street Shelter Ministries;
  • Staffing Salvation Army Christmas Bucket stations;
  • Collecting gifts for disadvantaged children through our a Christmas Angel Tree;
  • Volunteering in the East Iredell Elementary School’s reading improvement program by working with children from varied social and economic backgrounds to improve their reading capabilities;
  • Collecting supplies in support of our budget-challenged school district;
  • Collecting food contributions monthly for Iredell Christian Ministries;
  • Conducting a weekly farmers’ market where members of the parish contribute vegetables, herbs and flowers that other members of the congregation. Proceeds from the sale and excess produce are provided to Iredell Christian Ministries.

The Outreach group is particularly excited about its newest project for 2010. Trinity is building 10 raised garden beds which it will lease to members of the greater Statesville community for raising vegetables, herbs and flowers for individual families' consumption.

Trinity’s community garden will do more than give a lower cost option for providing food to our neighbors. Our community garden is also intended to bring many of the members of Iredell County back to the basics of raising their own food and flowers for their own personal well being and enjoyment. By making the facilities and expertise available, the community garden will allow participants to not only grow their own food, but also to create greater sense of neighborhood by fostering a common space and community awareness through shared goals, as well as neighborhood beautification.
